York Hotel

18 Aug 12 Sat
Over the past 1 week, I have emailed about 30 hotels to enquire on their wedding packages. Haha, even though the wedding forums have information on the packages, I still emailed the hotels directly to make sure that I get the right package. And at the same time, to enquire if 14 Dec13 is already taken. If yes, then we don't have to consider them anymore. Decided to cast our nets wider and hence emailed a range of hotels, from low to up class hotels. About 1/3 of the hotels that I emailed are already booked (everyone is so kiasu!), and a couple of them are on waitlist. I have prepared an excel sheet of all the details of the 30 hotels so that we can compare the package and availability easily.

The ones that are taken include Holiday Inn Atrium, Novotel, Amara, Fullerton, Marina Mandarin, Grand Copthorne Waterfront, Swissotel Merchant Court, Crowne Plaza, Grand Park City Hall and Raffles Town Club. The ones that are on waitlist are Holiday Inn Orchard, Orchard Hotel, Mariott, Goodwood Park, Carlton and Hilton.

Available hotels and which can accommodate 35 tables are York Hotel, MBS, Concorde, Furama City Centre, Hotel Fort Canning, Sheraton, Swissotel Stamford, Intercontinental, Mandarin Orchard, Hyatt, Pan Pacific and Regent. But out of these, many of them are too expensive and they require at least 40 tables for a Saturday dinner. Quite hard leh. So from this list, we have shortlisted a few hotels for consideration:

1) York Hotel - $1,098 nett, min 30 tables
2) MBS - $1,188++, min 20 tables
3) Hilton - $1,118 nett, min 40 tables
4) Hotel Fort Canning - $1,038++, min 25 tables (we went to take a look at the hotel but it is located up the fort canning park. for those who don't drive, they have to walk a distance before they reach the hotel. basically it is quite inaccessible and there is a lack of parking spaces there. would be very inconvenient for everyone. so it's a choice to be dropped)

We met the senior sales manager of York Hotel today. Their package is really not bad, cost is within our budget. There are no pillars but chandelier lights in the ballroom.  The bridal suite that they provide can be used for our solemnisation and  no extra cost would be incurred.

However, the location of this hotel is compromised. If you do not drive, you have to walk a distance up mount elizabeth hospital before you can reach the hotel. It is also not a hotel which everyone knows, so people may need to find their way to go to this hotel. But the cost is really tempting. For hotels of similar price range like Furama and Holiday Inn, this hotel is better maintained and managed. Not lok kok. To KIV! Let us meet the sales person for MBS and Hilton before deciding.
